GENERAL STATEMENT:
Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Recreation Programmer, Assistant Camp Director and Camp Head Counselor, incumbent will supervise a group of school age (7-10) children in a Day Camp program using good management techniques. Provide a safe environment for children and encourage good health and safety practices. Comply with all required policies, procedures, and regulations. Provide children with a variety of enriching experiences, with a good balance between free choice and planned curriculum activities: indoor and outdoor play, sports and games, arts and crafts, field trips and more.
Kyle 2023 Summer Camp will be an 8-week camp from May - July
Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. The camp allows the ages of entering 2nd grade to entering 9th grade. The Kyle Camp is an indoor and outdoor camp filled with tons of awesome active activities, water games, and crafts.
**The City of Kyle is now offering a hiring incentive for all Camp positions! Employees will receive a $100 sign-on bonus if offered a position by May 13th, and an additional $150 bonus for working thru the end of the season (08/04/23).*
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement programs and activities for the Day Camp, under the supervision of the Head Counselor, Assistant Camp Director, or Recreation Programmer.
- Implement safety protocol and procedures at all times including but not limited to all City of Kyle facilities and off-site field trips.
- Must be able to get into a pool to supervisor and monitor campers at least 2 times a week.
- Attend all required trainings, meetings, and in-services scheduled by the Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Recreation Programmer, or Assistant Camp Director throughout the season.
- Maintain positive interpersonal relations among everyone involved in the Camp program including children, parents, Recreation Programmer, Assistant Camp Director, and other camp counselors.
- Be available for fellow camp counselors in times of emergencies.
- Oversee the enforcement of camp rules & regulations, proper documentation, and reporting issues to supervisors.
- Follow the daily and weekly schedule of activities for the camp.
- Participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to swimming, gym games, and outdoor activities.
- Perform all other duties as duly assigned by the Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Recreation Programmer, and Assistant Camp Director.

Community Relations
o Maintains desired working relationship with Recreation Programmer(s), and Parks & Recreation Director, Maintenance Manager and City Manager.
o Provides support to all City department programs and/or activities as needed.
o Actively participates in creating and providing desired service levels to the citizens of Kyle and non-citizens outside the City of Kyle.
PREFFERED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used at the Day Camps.
- Knowledge of child development, what to expect of children in different situations, and group management techniques.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
- Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency and in stressful situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Skill in monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Judgement and decision-making skills.
- Preferred seasonal job continuation into our Summer Camp.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 16 years of age and enrolled in high school or obtained a GED equivalent.
- One (1) year professional experience in childcare and/or youth recreation programs preferred, but not required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a certification in Adult and Child CPR & Standard First Aid.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may be routinely required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work may routinely require the employee to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires the individual to frequently work outdoors and indoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, moisture, and distracting noises. An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
